Rambo: First Blood Part II
Directed by George P. Cosmatos
Starring Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Charles Napier
I don’t care how well Last Blood might do.
It won’t be as good as First Blood Part II.
This is the movie action films wish they were
And few, if any, have tied with its score.
At the start of this film, Rambo’s in prison
And Colonel Trautman gives him a mission.
He tells him that American POWs
Are still in Vietnam right now
And if Rambo wouldn’t mind setting them free
He would gladly give him his liberty.
Rambo accepts and is flown to Nam
And lands in an army base cool and calm.
A man named Murdock runs the base
And tells him to go to an enemy base
And rescue the Americans imprisoned within.
Rambo Grunts and goes with him.
They send him to the designated place,
Where he finds some POWs and they escape,
But Murdoch betrays them and leaves them behind,
Causing Rambo’s teeth to grind.
He had only half-believed the blarney.
So Stallone becomes a one-man army.
He kills pretty much every man he meets,
For the next hour performing countless feats
Of savage bloodshed that’ll make the heart quicken.
He even kills a helpless chicken.
When he’s finished killing every man he sees
And setting fire to the plants in the trees,
He remembers the camp where he was given the lowdown
And returns there for a climactic showdown.
The action is fast, the suspense atmospheric,
The dialog superb,
Each grunt almost a lyric.
I’m giving this film a four plus two.
You will never forget First Blood Part II
