Han and Chewie rob a train.

I didn’t expect much going forward
Of a Han Solo movie without Harrison Ford.
There had not been much marketing done.
One day I just learned it was out. It was done.
Having heard bad rumblings from behind the scenes,
I expected mediocrity to splash the screen.

What I got was the opposite.
Somehow they made
Another good Star Wars film
In this modern age.

This was surprising
Given Disney’s track record,
Yet compared to the sequels,
This movie was better.

I think part of its success
Is the same as with Rogue One.
They had a story to tell,
And made sure it was a good one.

We see the origins
Of one of the greatest
Heroes of cinema
Ever created.

Lando reprises Itchy’s scene from the Star Wars Holiday Special.

He’s a guy in a poor place
Who joins an army,
Meet an alien beast man
Who smells really funny,

Wins a spaceship
In a game of cards,
And travels freely
Among the stars.

Somehow with an actor nowhere as good
As Harrison Ford (could they find one that good?)
They nevertheless went and made us care
About the characters, plot, and the ship over there.

With the actor playing Solo so likeable,
And his furry Wookie copilot likeable,
The rest of the film couldn’t fail.
It manages not to land on its tail.

A young Han Solo in his first adventures.

The man who plays Lando does a very good job.
He even sounds exactly like the Lando of old.
The other supporting characters do their jobs well,
And a few of these performances are gold.

All in all, it holds up rather well.
Of course, it could have been better or worse.
I’m giving this movie a 4.5,
A rating it has well deserved.
