Directed by Sam Raimi
Starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace, James Franco, Thomas Hadden Church
This trilogy began with a very good film,
Followed by a sappy one all drenched in tears.
This third film is an uneven mixture of both,
And has equal boos to its cheers.
Peter Parker and Harry Osbourne,
Once friends and now enemies,
Fight against one-another a lot,
As they speed through the giant city.
The same man who once killed his uncle,
A man played by Thomas Hadden Church,
Has recently become the Sandman,
And can morph into things like a perch.
Reporter Eddie Izzard
Encounters a strange alien being
Who transforms him temporarily
Into an evil Spider-Man being.
Before Eddie meets the alien,
Peter Parker gets it first.
He becomes an evil Spider-Man,
His suit’s now black, like a hearse.
As Spider-Man he swings around,
Doing this and that,
But as Peter he dances down the street
And gives Mary Jane a thwack.
He removes the alien from himself
By ringing some very loud bells.
Then Eddie finds the creature,
And they become ne’er do wells.
Spider-Man, now good, has to save the day
From Eddie and his alien friend,
And from the Sandman, in addition
To saving his lady friend.
The story’s kind of stupid,
But as entertainment nearly works,
If not for the melodrama,
And all the fits and all the jerks.
I’ll give it a passing four out of six.
It’s not great, but it’s nowhere as bad
As the horrendous Spider-Man 2,
A film that was just plain bad.
